Open a project
Open the last saved project or any previously saved project. Open a
View Designer
project using the same or later version of View Designer
used to save the project. Opening a .vpd file of an earlier version than the installed version of View Designer
converts the .vpd file to the installed version of View Designer
.
IMPORTANT:
Converting a
View Designer
project to a later version does not convert any user-defined changes to predefined screens or the System Banner. When converting a project to a later version, reapply the user-defined changes to the predefined screens and the System Banner. To copy user-defined changes to predefined screens and the System Banner:
- Copy the user-defined content (for example, the System Banner) and paste it to a temporary screen in the original project.
- Convert the project to a later version.
- Copy the changes from the temporary screen back to predefined screens or the System Banner
- Delete the temporary screen.
Prerequisites
- Close any open project. Only one project can be open at a time. Projects in other instances ofView Designermay remain open. It is recommended that no more than three instances ofView Designerrun at one time.
- Verify the version used to save the project without openingView Designer. Browse to and hover over the .vpd file. To show the project version you can also right-click the .vpd file, selectProperties, and then select theDetailstab.
To open a project:
- On theMenubar, clickFile > Open Project.
- Select a project and selectOpen. The title bar shows the name of the open project and the HMI device type for the project.TIP:Tips:
- When opening a large project, wait for the project to finish opening before using these functions:
- Download
- Emulate
- Verify
- Find and Replace
- Save as .vpdr
- Double-click a .vpd file to launchView Designerand open the project.
- Opening a project created using an earlier version ofView Designeropens theOpening Projectdialog box. This indicates that the project was created using an earlier version and creates a backup of the project. SelectingConvertsaves the backup of the original project in the same folder. The name of the backup file is appended with _Vn, where n is the version ofView Designerused by the project.
- A project does not convert if theTemplatesfolder or a project template file is missing or corrupt. Repair theView Designerinstall to create or replace an unrevised missing or corrupt project template. If theTemplatesfolder is revised, manually delete a corrupt project file.
- Opening a project saved with a later version ofView Designeris not allowed.
- View Designerprovides a list of recent projects. On theMenubar, clickFile>Recent Projects. The most recently closed project appears at the top of the list.
