Smartports and VLANs view

Use the
Smartports and VLANs
view to assign the Smartport roles and to assign VLAN types and IDs.
TIP:
The parameters in this view are available while online.
The Smartport roles are recommended configurations for the ports. These configurations are referred to as port roles. Use Smartports to:
  • Optimize the switch connections and ensure security, transmission quality, and reliability to traffic from the switch ports.
  • Prevent the problems caused by incorrect port configurations.
    TIP:
The port roles are based on the type of device that is connected to the switch port. Make sure that you decide which port is connected to which type of device before selecting the Smartport.
Use VLANs to:
  • Group users and enforce privileges and restrictions to different user types, isolate different types of traffic to preserve the quality of the transmission, and minimize excess traffic among the logical segments.
  • Isolate different types of users and reduce administrative effort to constantly examine requests to network resources.
    TIP:
Devices that are attached to the switch ports in the same VLAN can communicate only with each other and can share the same data.
